Terms of use

The basis on which the calculators, datasets and written material on this site are provided, and the limits of what a calculated estimate can be used for.

What am I agreeing to when I use SnapEnergyLab?

That the calculators produce estimates from the inputs and assumptions you can see, not measurements, quotes or professional advice, and that decisions you take on the basis of a result are your own. The site is free, needs no account, and stores nothing about you. You may use results for your own planning and quote figures with attribution and a link; you may not scrape the site in bulk, republish its written material wholesale, or present its outputs as engineering, financial or legal advice. The service is provided as it is, with no warranty and no guaranteed availability.

1.Scope and acceptance

1.1

What these terms cover. These terms govern your use of the SnapEnergyLab website, including every calculator, dataset, guide, reference page and figure published on it.

1.2

Acceptance. Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.

1.3

Related documents. These terms are written to be consistent with the Privacy policy and the Disclaimer. The Privacy policy governs anything concerning data handling; the Disclaimer explains in detail why real-world results differ from an estimate. Where a topic is described in more detail in one of those documents, that description applies.

1.4

Who may use it. The site is a general-audience reference service. It is not directed at children and it requires no account, no registration and no payment of any kind.

2.What the service is

2.1

A calculation reference. SnapEnergyLab publishes household energy calculators — electricity cost, appliance running cost, battery runtime and backup sizing, solar output, EV charging cost and time, and heat pump savings — together with the formulas, default values and datasets behind them.

2.2

Calculation happens in your browser. The calculation engines run locally in your browser. The site does not act as a broker, intermediary, installer, retailer, energy supplier or advisor, and it sells nothing.

2.3

What it is not. Nothing on the site is engineering, electrical, building, financial, tax, insurance or legal advice, and no professional relationship is created by using it. It does not produce a quote, a design, a specification, a certification or a compliance assessment.

2.4

No live market data. Results do not use live tariff, market, weather or product data. Prices, irradiance figures and equipment characteristics come from the inputs you supply and from documented defaults, described in Assumptions and Data sources.

3.Estimates and responsibility for decisions

3.1

Results are estimates. Every figure on this site is an estimate produced by applying a documented formula to the inputs and assumptions shown alongside it. It is not a measurement of your home, a prediction of your bill, or a commitment about how equipment will perform.

3.2

Garbage in, garbage out. A result is only as good as its inputs. Where you leave a default in place, the result describes that default scenario rather than your situation.

3.3

Your decisions are yours. You are responsible for deciding whether a result is fit for your purpose, for verifying it against your own meter readings, tariff, equipment documentation and local conditions, and for any purchase, installation, contract or other decision you make.

3.4

Professional verification. Battery, inverter, solar, EV charging and heat pump installations involve electrical work, structural load, permitting and safety requirements that must be assessed on site by a qualified professional. Use these calculators to arrive at informed questions, not to replace that assessment.

3.5 Life-safety loads

Do not size backup power for medical equipment, sump or well pumps, or heating in freezing conditions from this site alone. Those cases require professional design and deliberate margin.

4.Inputs, defaults and data sources

4.1

Documented assumptions. Default values — duty cycles, depth of discharge, inverter and charging efficiency, system losses, seasonal performance factors and similar — are published with their reasoning so you can inspect and override them rather than accept them blindly.

4.2

Nature of the datasets. Bundled datasets, such as typical appliance wattages and regional solar yield figures, are representative reference values compiled for comparison. They are not manufacturer specifications for your particular product and not a measured record of your location.

4.3

No manufactured precision. Results are presented at a precision the underlying method can support. A figure shown to two decimal places is arithmetic on your inputs, not a claim of real-world accuracy at that resolution.

4.4

Excluded costs. Unless a page states otherwise, equipment prices, installation, maintenance, financing, taxes, incentives, rebates, standing charges, demand charges, time-of-use bands and export tariffs are not modelled.

5.Versioning and changes to results

5.1

Engines and datasets are revised. Calculation engines, default values and datasets are corrected and improved as better information becomes available. A result you obtain today may therefore differ from one obtained later for the same inputs.

5.2

Changes are visible, not silent. Methods and assumptions are documented on the Methodology and Assumptions pages so a change in approach can be seen rather than inferred.

5.3

Record your own results. If you need a figure for a record, a comparison over time or a document you will rely on, save the inputs and the result yourself. The site keeps no history of your calculations, as explained in the Privacy policy.

5.4

Reporting an error. If you believe a formula, default or dataset value is wrong, please report it to the address in section 16. Corrections are welcome and are the fastest route to a better reference.

6.Permitted use

6.1

Free personal and professional use. You may use the calculators without charge for your own planning, for advising a client or household, for teaching, and for research.

6.2

Quoting figures. You may quote individual results, formulas or short passages in your own work with clear attribution to SnapEnergyLab and a link to the page used.

6.3

Implementing the physics yourself. The underlying physics is not owned by anyone. Relationships such as energy equals power multiplied by time are common knowledge, and the Methodology page documents them precisely so you can verify our results independently or implement the same maths yourself.

6.4

Onward responsibility. If you pass a result to someone else, you are responsible for carrying the estimate’s assumptions and limits with it rather than presenting it as a firm figure.

7.Prohibited use

7.1

Bulk extraction. Automated scraping, crawling at a rate that affects availability for other visitors, and systematic extraction of pages, datasets or calculator outputs to build a competing dataset or reference product are not permitted.

7.2

Wholesale republication. Reproducing pages or written material in substantial part, with or without attribution, requires permission.

7.3

Misrepresentation. You may not present results as professional advice, as a certified calculation, as a guaranteed saving or performance figure, or as endorsed by SnapEnergyLab where it is not.

7.4

Interference. You may not attempt to interfere with the operation, integrity or security of the site, to probe or circumvent its infrastructure, or to introduce malicious code.

7.5

Unlawful use. You may not use the site in breach of applicable law, or to mislead consumers about energy costs, savings or equipment performance.

8.Intellectual property and attribution

8.1

What is owned. The written explanations, page structure, design system, dataset compilations and the specific implementation of the calculation engines are the property of the operator of SnapEnergyLab.

8.2

What is not owned. Physical laws, standard formulas, industry-standard terminology and publicly published reference data are not claimed as property. What is protected is this site’s expression, selection and implementation of them.

8.3

Trade marks. Product, brand and manufacturer names that appear in reference material belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only. Their appearance implies no affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement in either direction.

8.4

Feedback. If you send a correction or suggestion, you allow it to be used to improve the site without obligation or compensation, and without treating it as confidential.

9.Availability

9.1

No service level. The site is provided on a best-effort basis with no guaranteed uptime, response time or continuity. It may be unavailable during maintenance, infrastructure incidents or network failures.

9.2

Changes and withdrawal. Pages, calculators and datasets may be changed, moved, merged or withdrawn at any time without notice.

9.3

Access restriction. Access may be limited or blocked where use breaches section 7 or threatens availability for others.

10.No warranty

10.1

As is. The site, its calculators, its datasets and its written material are provided as they are and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

10.2

No accuracy guarantee. Considerable care goes into the engines, defaults, datasets and their documentation, but no guarantee is made that they are free of error, complete, current, or suitable for any particular decision.

10.3

No outcome guarantee. No saving, payback period, runtime, generation figure or cost shown on this site is promised or guaranteed to occur.

10.4

Statutory rights. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be limited.

11.Limitation of liability

11.1

Extent. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of SnapEnergyLab is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the site — including lost savings, higher energy costs, equipment that is undersized or oversized, wasted expenditure, lost data, business interruption, or any indirect or consequential loss.

11.2

Third-party decisions. The operator is not liable for the acts or omissions of installers, suppliers, energy providers or advisers you engage, whatever role a figure from this site played in your decision.

11.3

Cap. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited as described above, the operator's liability will be limited only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11.4

Exceptions. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, for fraudulent misrepresentation, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12.Commercial user responsibility

12.1

Commercial users are responsible for how they use, reproduce or communicate results from the site, including ensuring that relevant assumptions and limitations are communicated to their own clients or users.

12.2

This does not apply to ordinary personal use of the site by a household visitor.

13.International use and local rules

13.1

Global audience, local reality. The site is available internationally, but energy tariffs, metering, grid rules, building regulations, safety codes, permitting, incentives and taxation are local. A result that is reasonable in one country may be misleading in another.

13.2

Units and currency. Currency is a label you choose; the site performs no currency conversion and applies no exchange rate. Unit conversions follow the definitions on the Methodology page.

13.3

Your compliance. You are responsible for complying with the laws and technical rules that apply where you are. The site makes no representation that its content is appropriate or lawful in every jurisdiction.

14.Privacy and data

14.1

No account, no collection. The site has no sign-up, no login and no user database. Calculator values are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to SnapEnergyLab, as described in the Privacy policy.

14.2

Nothing to recover. Because calculations are not stored, there is no history, export or backup of your work to request, restore or delete. Keep your own record of anything you need.

14.3

Precedence. Where these terms and the Privacy policy both touch on data handling, the Privacy policy governs.

15.Governing law, changes and severability

15.1

Governing law. These terms are governed by Norwegian law, the law of the operator’s place of residence, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights available to you under the law of the country where you live.

15.2

Changes to these terms. These terms may be revised. The version and date at the top of this page change when they are, and continuing to use the site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

15.3

Severability. If any clause is found unenforceable, the remaining clauses continue in force and the unenforceable clause applies to the maximum extent permitted.

15.4

Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy policy and the Disclaimer, are the whole agreement between you and the operator regarding use of this site. No failure to enforce a clause waives it.
